The Story Behind Golden Leaves
Golden Leaves started in 2020 with one observation about offices in Colombo: nearly everyone wants greenery, and almost nobody wants what comes after it. Buying a plant takes ten minutes. Keeping it alive through an air-conditioned floor, a long weekend and a Sri Lankan April is a different job entirely — and it is the job most people would rather not own.
So we built the company around that part instead. You rent, we own. We choose species that can actually live in your light and your air conditioning, maintenance and replacement are written into the plan rather than arriving as surprise invoices, and the same trained team comes back to your floor each visit — not a different face every month. One monthly fee. No deposit, no lock-in.
Six years on, that approach has put our plants inside some of the most demanding workplaces in the country — Huawei’s head office, Hayleys Fentons and Hayleys Solar, the VIP kitchen at the World Trade Center, Swarnavahini’s head office, along with campuses, hotels and corporate floors across Colombo and the Western Province. Clients stay. Not one has left.
We are still a small team working out of Ja-Ela, and that is deliberate. It means the person who plans your space is the person who comes back to look after it — and when something needs attention, you reach us directly rather than a call centre.
